by Richard Yates

Written in 1961 and set in the Connecticut suburbs of the 1950’s, Richard Yates explores the lives of two young successful suburbanites who are at odds with their life and surroundings. To set themselves apart from their perceived bourgeoisie friends, they plan run away to France with their two children to ostensibly develop lives of artistic freedom only to risk the ruin of their marriage and family.
